Whispering Lore is a digital compendium dedicated to documenting and preserving the mythical creatures, legends, and folklore of human civilization. From the fire-breathing dragons of European legend to the shape-shifting kitsune of Japan, from Anansi's trickster tales to the haunting wail of the Irish banshee — every culture has its stories, and every story deserves to be remembered.
Our database currently spans 3,668 mythical creatures and 2,185 folklore stories from over 212 countries and territories across 36 cultural regions. Each entry is researched, documented, and presented with care for the tradition it comes from.
This project is a living archive. New creatures and stories are added regularly as research continues. Our goal is to create the most comprehensive, respectful, and beautifully presented collection of world folklore available anywhere.
