The Dandan (World Fish)
The Dandan, also known as Bahamut, is a colossal cosmic fish from Arabian and Islamic mythology that supports the structure of the world. According to medieval Islamic cosmography attributed to al-Qazwini and others, the Dandan lies deep beneath the earth, carrying on its back a massive bull named Kuyutha or Kiyuban, upon which stands an angel who shoulders the earth itself. A slab of gemstone sits between the bull and the angel. The Dandan is so immense that all the seas of the world placed in one of its nostrils would be like a mustard seed in the desert. Below the Dandan lies the serpent Fa
