Ahayuta (Twin War Gods)
Ahayuta (Ahayu'da), the Zuni twin war gods, were created by the Sun Father Awonawilona to protect the first people and are second only to him in power. They led the people from the fourth underworld, shaped the earth, and destroyed the monsters of the new world. Effigies carved from lightning-struck cottonwood are placed in open-air shrines to weather away.
