The Aitvaras is a nature spirit in Lithuanian mythology, also known as Atvaras, Damavykus, Pukis, Sparyzius, Koklikas, Gausinelis, Zaltviksas, and Spirukas. It is identical to the Latvian Pukis. This creature is a household spirit that hatches from an egg laid by a nine-to-fifteen-year-old rooster. Once an Aitvaras lodges itself in a house, it most often refuses to leave and becomes a permanent resident. It brings both good and bad luck to the inhabitants, providing its adopted home with stolen gold and grain from neighbors, though this often gets the household into trouble when the thefts are
