Al Basty, also known as Albasty or Al Karisi, is an ancient female spirit found in the folklore of Turkic peoples across the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Middle East, with origins dating back to Sumerian mythology. The name derives from Turkic words where al means red and basti means pressing. She is the personification of guilt who visits those with guilty souls or who come from families that have committed unpunished bloody crimes.
