Amarok
Amarok (Amaroq) is the gigantic solitary wolf of Greenlandic Inuit legend, which hunts alone unlike the pack and devours anyone foolish enough to hunt alone at night. According to H.J. Rink, Greenlanders used the word only for this legendary wolf. It appears both as a dangerous predator and as a tester of strength that picks off the sick caribou, in some tales a benevolent guardian.
