Anansi (Kwaku Anansi) is the Jamaican trickster spider, brought from Akan/Ashanti Ghana via the slave trade. Acquired all stories from sky god Nyame by capturing python, hornets, leopard, and fairy Mmoatia. Shape-shifts between spider and human; wife Aso, sons Ntikuma et al. Symbol of slave resistance and cultural survival. Tales end with proverbs ('If yuh cyaan ketch Kwaku, yuh ketch him shut').
