Anzar is the ancient Amazigh (Berber) god of rain, particularly revered in the Kabyle and Aurès regions of Algeria. According to the myth, Anzar is a powerful and capricious deity who controls the life-giving rains. One day, he fell in love with a beautiful mortal woman. When she refused his advances, Anzar withdrew all rain from the land, causing a devastating drought. Crops withered, animals died, and the people suffered until the woman finally relented and agreed to marry him. Their union brought the rains back, making the land fertile once more.
