Arsu and Azizos
Arsu and Azizos are twin guardian deities from ancient Syrian (Palmyrene) mythology, worshipped as protectors of caravans and travelers crossing the dangerous Syrian desert. Azizos personifies the morning star (Venus as the morning star) and is depicted as a camel rider or a warrior on horseback, while Arsu personifies the evening star (Venus as the evening star). Together they represent the cycle of day and night, and are associated with the twin stars that guide travelers. They were particularly revered in the caravan city of Palmyra, where their temples stood near the famous Temple of Bel.
