Bøylefosstrollet
Bøylefosstrollet is the troll associated with Bøylefossen, a dramatic waterfall in the Setesdal valley. According to local legend, the Bøylefosstroll lived behind the waterfall and guarded a treasure hidden in a cave in the cliff. The troll would emerge on misty days to sit on the rocks beside the waterfall, washing its clothes in the spray. It was said to be a solitary female troll who had been turned to stone by the sunrise but still moved during fog and mist. The mist from the waterfall provided enough cover for the troll to move — it was neither fully stone nor fully alive. Local farm chil
