Baal
Baal is the chief Canaanite-Phoenician storm god, a divine warrior who defeated the chaos monster Yamm to establish cosmic order. His cult centers included Byblos, Tyre, and Sidon in modern Lebanon. In the Ugaritic Baal Cycle, Baal first defeats Yamm using the divine maces Yagrush and Ayamur, establishing himself as king of the gods. He is then challenged by Mot who defeats him and sends him to the underworld. His sister Anat retrieves his body and Baal returns to life, defeating Mot and restoring fertility to the land.
