Bakru
Bakru, also called Backoo or Bacro, is a malevolent forest spirit from the folklore of Suriname and the surrounding Guiana region of South America, rooted in the Afro-Caribbean traditions brought by enslaved Africans and adapted in the context of the Surinamese rainforest. According to traditional belief, Bakru are created by evil sorcerers using dark magic derived from Winti, the Afro-Surinamese spiritual tradition. The sorcerer creates a wooden doll or statue in human form and, through a ritual involving the sacrifice of a child or the use of a deceased child's soul, animates it with a corru
