Bakwas
Bakwas (Bukwus), the Wild Man of the Woods, is a dangerous forest spirit in Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl) tradition and counterpart of Dzonokwa, the Wild Woman of the Woods. He lurks in the deep forest and lures wanderers with ghostly food that turns eaters into spirits like himself; prepared encounters may bring spiritual power, careless ones death or madness. He features in winter ceremonial dances.
