Barong
Barong is the protective spirit of Balinese tradition, a shaggy lion-dog deity usually portrayed by two dancers within an elaborate costume. In the celebrated Barong dance he confronts Rangda, the widow-witch, in ritual combat that stages the balance of cosmic order, blessing the village and warding off evil. The figure remains central to Balinese religious performance and community identity.
