Basajaun
Basque 'Lord of the Forest' (basajaunak plural, basaandre female). Huge hairy hominid - Europe's Bigfoot. Among the last surviving Jentilak (old spirit race) when Christianity arrived. First farmer who taught humans to cultivate cereals. Protective of flocks from wolves and storms - gives Warning Howls when danger approaches so shepherds can move herds. Has prodigious strength but extremely wise. Swift as a stag. Lives in caves at high altitudes and dense forests of the Pyrenees. Makes bread offerings from cowherds. Rare but friendly if treated with respect. Can be terrifying if encountered un
