Baxbaxwalanuksiwe' (Man-Eater)
Baxbaxwalanuksiwe', the Man-Eater at the North End of the World, is the supreme cannibal spirit of the Kwakwaka'wakw and patron of the Hamatsa. Covered with mouths over his whole body, he commands the man-eating birds and possesses initiates of the winter ceremony; the northern lights are said to be the smoke of his far-off fireplace.
