Baykok
The baykok (Ojibwe bakaak, 'bones draped in skin') is a malevolent skeletal spirit of Anishinaabe tradition: emaciated, translucent-skinned, with glowing red eyes, it flies through Great Lakes forests with shrill cries, hunting warriors, whom it paralyzes with invisible arrows or beats with a club before devouring their livers. It reached English literature via Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha.
