Bear Giant of Shona
In the folklore of the Shona people of Zimbabwe, the bear giant represents a mythical being that is neither fully animal nor fully spirit, but a monstrous entity inhabiting wild spaces between human settlements. While southern Africa has no native bears, the concept was introduced through oral traditions of Swahili traders and colonial contact. This being has been integrated into Shona mythology as a chimera-like creature combining the strength of a lion, the build of a rhinoceros, and the ferocity of a crocodile into a single terrifying form that appears in fireside stories as a warning
