Bear Giant of Zulu
Within Zulu tradition from South Africa, the bear giant appears as an imported mythical figure adapted into the rich corpus of Zulu folklore. The Zulu have no native bear species, but the concept of a large bear-like creature entered mythology through contact with European settlers and travelers bringing stories of mysterious beasts. This figure was integrated as a monster known as udongo, embodying the dangers of the unknown and the consequences of venturing too far from home.
