Bear Wife Tsimshian
In Tsimshian texts from the Nass River, the great Grizzly Bear is the wife of a man — a supernatural bride who fills her husband's house with salmon and uses her stomach as a berry basket. In the companion tale 'The Bear Who Married a Woman,' a human woman becomes the bear chief's wife; bear marriage runs both ways in Tsimshian tradition.
