The Bergkobold is a mine spirit from German folklore, particularly associated with the Harz Mountains, the Ore Mountains of Saxony, and other mining regions of central Europe. Unlike the household kobold, which helps with domestic chores, the Bergkobold or mountain kobold inhabits underground mines and tunnels, where it can be either helpful or dangerous to miners depending on how it is treated.
