Biskinik
Biskinik is the Choctaw 'little news bird,' identified with the yellow-bellied sapsucker. According to Choctaw tradition it was one of two birds (with Folichik, the scissor-tailed flycatcher) to escape the Great Flood, and afterward it served as a friend to the people, tapping messages on trees to warn of approaching visitors and danger. The Choctaw Nation's newspaper bears the bird's name.
