Not independently attested in folklore literature. The entry concedes there were no bison in pre-Columbian Oaxaca, then invents a 'pitao of the grasslands.' Zapotec pitao are genuine deities and spirits of nature, but none is a bison figure; the mountain-shrine offering role is fabricated.
