Bjergfolk
Bjergfolkene (the Mountain Folk) are the Danish version of underworld beings who live inside ancient burial mounds (gravhøje). They appear as small people the size of 7-8 year old children, wearing red caps, who are seen dancing on mounds at twilight, cooking over invisible fires, and working as smiths inside the hills. Denmark has over 158 documented mound sites associated with Bjergfolk, cataloged by folklorist Evald Tang Kristensen.
