Black God (Haashchʼééshzhiní) is one of the most important Holy People in Navajo mythology, the deity of fire, medicine, and the night sky. He is credited with placing the constellations in their proper positions and teaching the Navajo the medicinal properties of fire. Black God carries a fire bag containing the sparks of creation, and from his torch the first sacred fire was lit.
