Bluecap
In the mining folklore of the Anglo-Scottish borders, the bluecap is a mine spirit of the brownie kind, appearing as a small blue flame that moved loaded coal tubs like a putter. Treated with respect and paid its due wages, it helped miners; cheated, it withheld its aid. Scottish and English pitmen shared the tradition along the border coalfields.
