Bolotnik
The Bolotnik ('Swamp Spirit') is a malevolent spirit of Belarusian and western Russian folklore, the name from 'boloto,' Slavic for swamp. Unlike the Vodyanoy of deep waters, he haunts shallow, unstable bogs and marshes. Said to be the soul of a drowned person or one cursed to guard the wetlands, he seizes travelers' ankles from beneath and drags them into the peat, bodies never found.
