Boruta
Powerful forest and swamp spirit of Polish mythology, tutelary of central and eastern Poland's woodlands — the Puszcza Kurpiowska. Unlike the Leshy, Boruta is a nobleman (szlachcic) who pacted with dark forces and haunts the forests; his name derives from Old Polish 'bor' (pine forest). He leads astray hunters, illegal loggers, and mushroom pickers, yet guides lost children home.
