Brer Coon is a character of African American folktale from the Uncle Remus cycle compiled by Joel Chandler Harris, a raccoon figure drawn from West African trickster stories carried into the American South. He appears alongside Brer Rabbit and Brer Possum in comic tales of cunning, deceit, and hard lessons.
