Brer Possum
Brer Possum is a character of African American folktale, one of the animal figures of the Uncle Remus cycle written down by Joel Chandler Harris from stories brought from West Africa by enslaved people. As Brer Rabbit's neighbor he is sly and slow, frequently outwitted yet resilient, a trickster of the American South rather than a Native American figure.
