Brunnsgubbe
Brunnsgubben (well old man) is the male guardian spirit of wells, springs, and natural water sources in Swedish folklore. Every well has its Brunnsgubbe, who ensures the water stays clean and plentiful if treated with respect. He punishes those who pollute the well, spit into it, or wash dirty items in its water by causing the well to dry up, the water to turn murky, or misfortune to befall the household. Offerings of bread, cheese, or a coin tossed into the well keep him favorable. In some traditions, he reveals the location of healing springs to those who are pure of heart. Brunnsgubben is d
