Bulyit

spirit · Australia · Pacific

Bulyit is a Noongar (southwestern Australian) name for small, hairy, malevolent spirit-beings — grouped with Gnardi and Mumari — that lurk in shadows and are said to carry off children who stray from camp, especially near sundown. The entry misattributes them to the Wurundjeri and Kulin nations of Victoria; the term is genuinely Noongar.
