Buraq (Celestial Steed)
Buraq is the fabulous celestial steed that carried the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem and through the seven heavens during the Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj) in 621 CE. Described as a wingèd creature, white and luminous like lightning, larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule. Its step stretches as far as the eye can see, covering impossible distances in moments. In Near Eastern and Persian art, Buraq is depicted with the head of a beautiful woman, the body of a horse, and the tail of a peacock.
