Burkhan Khaldun Spirit
Burkhan Khaldun, in the Khentii mountains of northeastern Mongolia, is the holiest mountain of the Mongols, the birthplace and reputed burial place of Genghis Khan and one of four sacred peaks of the land. Spirits are said to dwell upon it, their presence marked by ovoo cairns, and pilgrims approach it with reverence after rites begun on the banks of the Kherlen river.
