Tengbiswem Earth Spirit
The Earth Spirit is the invisible guardian of the land, believed by the Mossi to be the true owner of the soil. This spirit governs the fertility of the crops and the overall health of the community. To avoid angering the spirit—which could result in drought, famine, or illness—the community relies on the Tengbiswem (Earth Priests) to perform sacrifices and prayers. The spirit is deeply tied to the ancestors and the physical land, making land ownership a spiritual rather than just a material matter
