Mami Wata

Mami Wata is known in parts of Burkina Faso through the spread of the West African water-spirit cult along trade routes, where she appears as a beautiful, seductive woman granting wealth and children in exchange for offerings and celibacy. Her inland temples cluster near rivers and sacred pools of the Volta basin.
