Imana
Imana is the supreme creator deity in the traditional Barundi (and Banyarwanda) religion of Burundi and Rwanda. Unlike the many intervening spirits of the Kubandwa tradition, Imana is seen as the almighty and gracious creator who rules all living things but does not normally interfere in the material course of nature. In Barundi mythology, Imana created the world and humanity, then hunted Death itself as a savage wild animal to grant immortality to creation. During this hunt, Imana commanded all people to stay hidden so Death would have no refuge. However, an old woman disobeyed by creeping ou
