Bytting
Bytting (also known as skifting, from bytte = to swap) is a changeling in Norwegian folklore - a troll or hulder child secretly exchanged for a human infant. The underjordiske (hidden people) were believed to envy human babies for their health and strength, and would swap their own sickly, ugly offspring for robust human infants. A bytting was identified by unusual behavior: constant crying, insatiable appetite, physical deformities, or developmental delays.
