El Cadejo
El Cadejo is a spirit from Panama mythology. Unlike the dual white/good and black/evil Cadejos of other Central American countries, Panama's Cadejo is a single black creature. It is described as a large black dog with glowing red eyes, dragging heavy chains. Though monstrous in appearance, the Panamanian Cadejo is generally harmless and acts as a spectral companion on lonely roads. The legends trace back to Maya mythology and Nahua shamanistic traditions where dogs served as companions to the dead on their journey to the afterlife. The Cadejo represents the ancient belief that every human poss
