Camazotz
Camazotz (meaning 'Death Bat' in K'iche' Maya) is a bat spirit and death god in Late Post-Classic Maya mythology from the Popol Vuh. He serves the lords of the underworld, Xibalba. In the Maya Hero Twins myth, Camazotz appears in the 'House of Bats' trial, where Hunahpu and Xbalanque must spend the night surrounded by circling bats. When Hunahpu sticks his head out of his blowgun to check if the sun has risen, Camazotz immediately snatches off his head and carries it to the ballcourt to be used as a ball by the death gods. In Classic Maya iconography, the leaf-nosed bat is depicted as a person
