Chindi (Navajo: ch'ijidii) is a concept in Navajo religious belief referring to the negative spiritual residue left behind after a person dies. Unlike a ghost in the Western sense, the Chindi is not the soul of the deceased but an accumulation of everything negative about their life including pain, fear, anger, disappointment, resentment, and rejection.
