Corn Maidens
The Corn Maidens are the sacred corn spirits of the Pueblo peoples, especially the Zuni and Hopi, who embody the growth and life of maize. In origin accounts the maidens brought corn up from the underworld, sang and danced it into being, and when they were neglected the harvest withered until the people and their kachina priests called the maidens back.
