Corn Maidens (various colors)

deity · United States · North America

The Zuni Corn Maidens are seven sisters who personify the different colors of corn, fostered and guarded by Paiyatuma, the God of Dew and Dawn and flute-playing patron of spring. When they left the Zuni in anger the harvest withered, and Paiyatuma with the Kachina Fathers brought them home with magic wands and flute songs, restoring the crops.
