Coyote Spirit of Ashanti
In Ashanti tradition from Ghana the coyote spirit of the caves is known in Twi as sakraman a ote abotan mu, the dog-spirit dwelling among rocks. The Ashanti people of the West African forest zone recognize numerous spirits called abosom inhabiting natural features including caves, which serve as natural shrines and places of spiritual power. The coyote cave spirit is particularly associated with rocky hills and cave systems of the Ashanti Region, areas considered sacred because they escape dense forest growth and offer views of the surrounding landscape.
