Crane Animal-Spirit of Navajo

animal-spirit · United States · North America

Not independently attested as an animal-spirit of Navajo folklore. Navajo ceremonial practice uses the sandhill crane — its head for medicine pouches and its bill as a medicine spoon — but the crane is a practical ceremonial resource, not a spirit-being of Diné mythology. No Navajo crane spirit appears in the documented traditions.
