Crane Coast Salish

animal-spirit · Canada · North America

Not independently attested as a named spirit in Coast Salish folklore. Cranes are minor figures in Northwestern narrative: in Salishan Plateau traditions Crane is a wise helper and companion of Coyote, and in other Northwest tales he stretches his long neck to form a bridge for fleeing children. No distinct crane being is recorded for the Coast Salish peoples.
