Crowing Crested Cobra
The crowing crested cobra is a legendary East African serpent with a rooster-like comb and a crowing or screaming call, reported from the lower Zambezi to the Victoria Nyanza under many names: Njoka Tambala (Malawi), Bubu (Mozambique), Indlondlo (Zulu), Ngoshe (Bemba), Songo (Yao). Tied to sorcery, its crest was worn by chiefs; Loveridge equated it with the black mamba.
