Cuélebre
The Cuélebre is the winged serpent-dragon of Asturian and Cantabrian folklore: a giant snake with bat-like wings and scales that harden to iron over centuries, often several-headed. It guards hidden treasures (ayalgues) and imprisoned xanas in mountain caves, emerging rarely to prey on cattle. On Midsummer (San Juan) its magic weakens, and a red-hot stone or bread of pins can slay it.
