Damballa
Damballa, also spelled Damballah or Danbala, is one of the most ancient and revered loa (spirits) in Haitian Vodou and West African Vodun traditions. He originated in the city of Wedo (Whydah) in modern-day Benin and was carried across the Atlantic by enslaved Africans. Damballa is the primordial creator, the sky father who used his seven thousand coils to form the stars, planets, hills, and valleys of the cosmos. By shedding his serpent skin, he created all the waters on Earth. He is counted among the Rada loa and syncretized with Saint Patrick or Moses in Vodou practice
