Deer Ghost of Mapuche

ghost · Chile · South America

Not independently attested in Mapuche tradition as a named 'deer ghost'. The huemul (South Andean deer) is culturally significant and appears on Chile's coat of arms, but no specific spectral huemul guardian of sacred sites exists in Mapuche ethnography (Bacigalupo, Faron). Mapuche have wekufe (malevolent spirits) and ngen (nature owners), but not this entity.
